2018 Ford Escape vs 2018 Ford Edge: What's New?

This year, the 2018 Ford Edge carries over completely unchanged from the 2017 model. The new 2018 Ford Escape, on the other hand, gets a couple tweaks and upgrades this year, including an SEL trim level, which offers amenities like a power liftgate, full leather upholstery, and the new upgraded SYNC® 3 infotainment system technology interface. In addition, a few other convenience and safety features are being made available at lower trim levels. On the downside, the 2.0L turbocharged engine is now only available at the Titanium trim.

Base Features

Both the Edge and the Escape are available in four trim levels. For the Escape these are the S, the SE, the SEL and the Titanium, while for the Edge the available trims are the SE, SEL, Titanium and Sport.

The base features are different between the two. The S-trim Escape comes with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine delivering 160 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque, automatic headlights, the MyKey® parental control suite, cruise control, Ford SYNC® 3 technology interface with AppLink™ smartphone app integration, Bluetooth® connectivity, six-speakers, USB port, and CD player with a 4.2-inch touchscreen.

However, the S-level is designed for business fleets, and the SE is going to be the entry for most consumers. It adds sound dampening, more powerful engine, fog lights, keyless entry, privacy glass, paddle shifters, dual-zone automatic climate control, power driver seat, heated front seats, and satellite radio.

The base Edge SE level comes with automatic headlights, privacy glass, remote locking, rear view camera, and an infotainment interface with 4.2-inch display, Bluetooth® connectivity, voice commands, six speakers, CD player, and USB port.

Size Comparison

The biggest difference between the Edge and the Escape are in terms of size. The Edge is a bigger vehicle than the Escape, offering more passenger space and cargo space-39.2 ft3 with the seats up, expandable to 73.4 ft3 with seats down. It offers about 23 MPG combined with all-wheel drive.

While it doesn't offer quite as much in terms of cargo space, the Escape is no slouch, offering 34 ft3 of space with seats up and 68 ft3 with the seats down. In trade, however, you get a sleeker, more maneuverable vehicle that'll be easier to handle in tight turns and to park.
