2018 Ford Explorer Trim Levels

Venturing out of its pure utility persona, the new Ford Explorer refined its road manners and features new technology and creature comforts to present itself as an all-around family vehicle, with the same trusted capability that made it popular to begin with.

Those in the market for a 2018 Ford Explorer can learn more about the standard and available features for the Ford Explorer trim levels with our thorough breakdown.

Ford Explorer Trims

All Ford Explorer models include a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that transfers power to the front wheels or all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Cloth upholstery, the Sync system with voice commands, Bluetooth capability, a rearview mirror, a 4.2-inch touchscreen and a rearview camera are standard for all models as well.

Explorer XLT

The XLT trim level is next in line and includes all the previous features, as well as keyless ignition, a power driver's seat and satellite radio. There's also an appearance package available that adds gray leather upholstery with contrast stitching and suede panels, a blacked-out roof rack and a stylish gray grille. You can also equip the XLT with a more powerful 2.3-liter turbo-four.

Explorer Limited

The Limited trim level is a midrange and combines the utility of the lower trims with some luxury features. Plush leather upholstery, ambient interior lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, power-adjustable pedals, a power-adjustable steering wheel, a power-folding third row and a premium 12-speaker Sony audio system are all included. If you prefer, the Limited can use the original V-6 engine, instead of the turbo-four.

Explorer Sport

As the name implies, the Sport trim level is a performance-oriented option and includes a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine with all-wheel drive, as well as a sport-tuned suspension, an upgraded towing package with some helpful towing assistance features and special exterior appearance features.

Explorer Platinum

The range-topping Platinum trim level is the highest in the lineup. It's a near-luxury vehicle with a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, premium leather upholstery and accents, woodgrain interior accents and a premium sound system. This model also includes advanced safety technology like automatic park assist, adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning, which are all helpful for daily driving and towing or off-roading alike.

Advanced Safety Technology

Aside from the advanced safety features included for several Explorer models, there is an available package for all models that includes adaptive cruise control, automatic windshield wipers, blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and mitigation and automatic high beams. This makes it much easier to get the model you want without compromising the safety features that are important to you.
