3.3L Ti-VCT V6 Engine
The standard powertrain in the Ford F-150 is the 3.3L Ti-VCT V6. This robust engine packs a lot of punch with 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque and can be paired with the standard 4x2 system or the upgraded 4x4.
When matched with 4x2-wheel drive, you'll see an EPA-estimated 20 city/24 highway/21 combined MPG. If you opt for the available 4x4 system, the truck uses some extra power to add traction, resulting in a lower MPG. However, it is still quite impressive at an EPA-estimated 19 city/22 highway/20 combined MPG.
2.7L EcoBoost® V6 Engine
The next engine in the Ford F-150 lineup is the available 2.7L V6 with EcoBoost® technology. This not only results in 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, but it also focuses on saving fuel with every configuration.
Like the standard engine, this one can be paired with 4x2 and 4x4 systems. With the 4x2, you'll get an EPA-estimated 20 city/26 highway/22 combined MPG. The 4x4 will instead get you an EPA-estimated 19 city/24 highway/21 combined MPG.Â
5.0L Ti-VCT V8
For more power under the hood, the Ford F-150's 5.0L V8 engine is the way to go. It boasts a generous 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque for a robust drive that still gets you more bang for your buck at the gas station.
It comes with the same configurations as the last powertrain, but offers slightly different fuel economy ratings again based on whether you select a 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain. The former will provide an EPA-estimated 17 city/24 highway/20 combined MPG while the latter will get you an EPA-estimated 16 city/22 highway/19 combined MPG.Â
3.5L EcoBoost® V6
Ford's EcoBoost® technology is back in the next engine for the Ford F-150, the 3.5L EcoBoost® V6. This powertrain generates up to 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.
When we take a closer look at the configurations, you may be surprised by how similar the two are, given that they differ only slightly for those highway drives. In a 4x2 truck, you'll be able to go an EPA-estimated 18 city/24 highway/20 combined MPG, while a 4x4 truck will go an EPA-estimated 18 city/23 highway/20 combined MPG.Â
3.0L Power Stroke® V6
If you're looking for even greater gas mileage, then the 3.0L Power Stroke® V6 is for you. Though it produces a little less oomph with 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, this engine gives you a heightened fuel economy compared to the other engine options.Â
It's also the only one that's exclusively available in a 4x4 drivetrain, allowing you to achieve impressive power but still maintaining great fuel economy at an EPA-estimated 20 city/27 highway/23 combined MPG.Â
3.5L PowerBoostâ„¢ Full Hybrid V6
For the final engine offered in the 2021 Ford F-150, you'll have the highly powerful 3.5L PowerBoostâ„¢ Full Hybrid V6. This engine gives you the most amount of strength with a whopping 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque that increases capability as well.
It also gets you the best fuel economy, with the 4x2 getting you an EPA-estimated 25 city/26 highway/25 combined MPG and the 4x4 producing a 24 city/24 highway/24 combined MPG.Â
