Ah, there's nothing like that new car smell.
But how does that distinctive leathery, factory-fresh odor come to be? If you thought it was incidental, you have underestimated what perfectionists Ford designers are.
Every detail of a new Ford vehicle has been thought out, right down to the way it smells. Just like food companies and wine makers use taste-testers to ensure the quality of their product, so does Ford employ odor assessors to sniff each cabin material.
There are about 100 different materials in a car that influence its fragrance profile.
Each of these materials is sampled, and placed in an air-tight jar. Then, common vehicle conditions are simulated, like high-heat from sitting in the sun, or humidity. Odor assessors evaluate each smell individually, and as they complement each other.
