2020 Escape vs 2020 CX-5: Interior Comfort & Space

One of the most popular things about SUVs is their generous interior space. This makes it easy for these versatile models to double as adventure vehicles, road trip machines, and ideal for growing families. Luckily, for drivers in the area, the Ford Escape and Mazda CX-5 both provide roomy cabins that you and your driving companions can cozy up in.

The 2020 Ford Escape's spacious interior is filled with soft-touch fabric and high-quality materials. The firm, supportive seating is comfortable enough for long drives, and all passengers have plenty of head- and legroom to stretch out. Combined with its responsive handling and a whisper-quiet interior, the Escape is a dream to drive.

The Escape also offers 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat, which expands to 65.4 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. There's also an available gesture-controlled tailgate for easy loading, and the cargo floor has a convenient, two-position load floor.

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 uses high-end materials for its interior, as well, to ensure everyone on board has optimal coziness for the ride ahead. However, when it comes to cargo space, the Mazda model isn't as roomy as the Escape. When the seats are in their upright position, it only offers 30.9 cubic feet behind the rear seat. The theme continues when the seats are folded down, only opening this space to 59.6 cubic feet.

Ford Escape vs Mazda CX-5: Technology Features

No SUV would be complete without a suite of advanced technology features. Both the Ford Escape and Mazda CX-5 offer a plethora of progressive additions to choose from to keep those inside connected, comfortable, and entertained.

In the 2020 Ford Escape, not only will you find power accessories in the seats and durable cloth upholstery, comfort is taken to the next level with air conditioning, too. As for technology, standard amenities include cruise control, a 6-speaker sound system, and Ford's responsive and intuitive SYNC® infotainment system with a 4.2-inch display screen.

The Escape gives you plenty of chances to upgrade the technology found in your cabin. Additional features to elevate your driving experience include:

  • SiriusXM® Satellite Radio with hundreds of channels to choose from
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control to set the temp in two separate zones of the vehicle
  • Keyless entry and ignition that ensures the Escape is ready when you are
  • Heated leather seating offers more comfort at the press of a button
  • 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with elevated navigational features

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 offers many of the same features--like satellite radio, advanced climate control, and heated seats available in leather upholstery. However, its infotainment system proves to be more limiting than the intuitive SYNC® found in the Escape.

On top of that, it's not available with Apple CarPlay™ or Android Auto™ smartphone integration--unless you choose one of the higher trim levels. This might hinder your ability to stay connected while on the road.

2020 Ford Escape vs 2020 Mazda CX-5: Performance

SUVs are known for being ultimately versatile, and it's all thanks to their impressive performances. What is found under the hood can tell you a lot about what your drives will be like. Though these two SUVs pack a lot of punch, there are some noteworthy differences.

The Ford Escape gives drivers the choice of four engines, starting with the standard 1.5L EcoBoost®. This engine supplies up to 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque for plenty of power to hit the streets.

If you're looking for more oomph behind the wheel, opt for the available 2.0L EcoBoost®, which ups the ante with an impressive 250 horsepower. Plus, there are two hybrid powertrain options available to elevate your fuel economy.

The Mazda CX-5 comes standardly powered by a 2.5 4-cylinder engine. This powertrain also generates more than 180 horsepower. Unfortunately, it lacks in the strength department, with a lesser torque of 186.

Like the Escape, there is an upgraded engine available that similarly offers 250 horsepower. However, the Mazda CX-5 only has these two engines to choose from, with no choice of an efficiency-elevated hybrid on their roster.

You can also expect the Ford Escape to give you the control you need, with its standard 8-speed automatic transmission. The CX-5 only offers a 6-speed automatic on all trim levels.

2020 Ford Escape vs Mazda CX-5: The Choice Is Yours

Though the 2020 Mazda CX-5 is clearly an impressive SUV, the high-powered performance, amenities, and space found in the 2020 Ford Escape just may be what you're looking for to elevate your commutes. Don't take our word for it, though!
