Interior Space & Features: 2020 Explorer vs 2020 Pilot Dimensions

When choosing your next set of wheels, exploring the cabin is ultimately important. After all, you're going to be inside your car nearly every day. You deserve nothing less than a spacious, comfortable, and accommodating cabin. Luckily enough, both the Explorer and Pilot deliver.

You'll certainly be cozy while you're driving in your Ford Explorer. For example, the power-adjustable driver's seat offers a considerable amount of lumbar support, and both you and your co-pilot will be happy with the open, spacious feel. This is thanks to 40.7 inches of front headroom and 43 inches of front legroom.

In the Honda Pilot, you'll also find driver's seating with lumbar support. However, you might feel slightly more cramped in the front seat. While the headroom measures in similarly to the Explorer at 40.1 inches, the legroom is quite smaller, coming in at 40.9 inches.

You can also retain some measure of control while you're not driving your SUV. With Ford's available MyKey® system, you can take extra safety measures by setting certain limits for other drivers, like teenagers, elderly parents, and more. It's the ideal complement for the SecuriCode™ keyless entry pad, which allows you to program a 5-digit entry code. How handy!

Powerful Engine Options: Ford Explorer vs Honda Pilot

There's a lot to be said about the performance of an SUV. Everything from smooth driving to elevated control happens, thanks to what is under the hood. Though both of our SUVs sport impressive equipment under the hood, there are a lot of differences to be noted.

The Explorer's standard 300-horsepower 2.3L EcoBoost® engine responds well to daily driving, as does the Pilot's 280-horsepower 3.5L V6 powerplant. However, if you're looking for an even more robust performance, you won't be able to find it in the Honda Pilot.

The 2020 Ford Explorer gives drivers three engine choices while the Honda Pilot only offers one across all trim levels. For more oomph under the hood, you can opt for the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 in the Explorer, which generates up to 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, Honda's SUV can't quite match these numbers, as it only offers a single engine option.

The Explorer also offers a 3.3L Hybrid powertrain for heightened efficiency on the road. Plus, it still gives you a system net horsepower of 318 with 322 lb-ft of torque, so you won't have to sacrifice strength either. Unfortunately, you won't find any hybrid engine in the Honda Pilot lineup.

Advanced Entertainment Technologies

Technology is always changing, so ensuring you're able to keep up with it, even while you're in your vehicle is crucial. Both Honda and Ford know this, which is why they step up their innovation game.

Technology features abound in both SUVs, including standard infotainment systems, color dashboard touchscreens, and connectivity capabilities. For instance, with the 2020 Explorer's more advanced trim levels, you can rock out to a B&O™ Premium Sound System by Bang & Olufsen. This available addition comes complete with 14 speakers, a 980-watt amplifier, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, and much more.

Meanwhile, you could upgrade the 2020 Honda Pilot to a premium audio system as well, but it might not immerse you in music quite as much. This available system comes with 10 speakers and only 590 watts, which is less impressive than its competitor's version.

Additionally, there's something else you won't find in the Pilot that is available in the Ford Explorer's technology suite: Ford+Alexa. This incredibly handy system gives you the power of Amazon Alexa right in your vehicle. Ask her anything from what the weather will be like to traffic information and she'll answer. Better yet, this system allows you to easily Prime shop on the go and can be connected to your home's Alexa as well. Nothing like this is found in the 2020 Pilot.
