Monthly Service Items
Some of the regular maintenance your truck will need should take place every few months. Without these service items, your truck won't operate the way that you want or need. For example, every month, you should check the level of your engine oil, make sure your tires are properly inflated, and determine if your lighting system is working correctly.
There are some inspections that you should perform every six months. You should have your car's battery connections examined and, if necessary, cleaned. The fluid in your cooling system should be checked for strength. You also need to make sure that your parking brake is in working order.
Oil Changes and Multi-Point Inspections
Having your engine oil regularly changed is one of the most important maintenance tasks to schedule for your F-150. The frequency that your oil needs to be changed depends on your typical driving conditions. If you drive your car under normal conditions, meaning you're not hauling heavy loads or driving on rough roads, you should change your oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. If you drive under severe conditions, your oil needs changing every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Finally, under the most extreme driving conditions, change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
When you schedule your oil change, you should also have your oil filter changed, your tires rotated and inspected, and your brake system fully examined. It is also recommended that you schedule a multi-point inspection at every oil change. During this multi-point inspection, several items will be examined:
- Your battery performance.
- Your fluid levels will be checked, including a check for leaks.
- Your suspension, including a check for damage and leaks.
- The hoses in your heater, radiator, and cooler.
Other Maintenance Items
Your Ford F-150 maintenance schedule includes several other important service tasks at certain mile markers. Every 20,000 miles, for instance, you should have your cabin air filter replaced, and at 30,000 miles, you will need a new engine air filter. Once your vehicle reaches 100,000 miles, you should have your accessory drive belts inspected and your spark plugs replaced. Finally, at the 150,000-mile mark, you will need to change your automatic transmission fluid, rear and front axle fluid, and transfer case fluid. Your accessory drive belts should also be replaced.
